Yandex SEO in Uzbekistan: reaching top-3 in 6 months

Why Yandex is the main search engine in UZ and how to optimize for it. Local results, SQI, Yandex.Directory, semantic core — step-by-step plan.

Author: SAMSA.AGENCY11 min read

This guide is based on SAMSA.AGENCY project practice, the local Uzbekistan market and technical reviews of digital products.

In Russia, Yandex holds 55–60% of search. In Uzbekistan, even more: by local measurement, 65–70% of commercial search runs through Yandex. Two reasons: (1) Yandex.Maps is the only real cartography in UZ, (2) Yandex ranks Russian-language content better, and most UZ content is in Russian. Optimizing only for Google means losing 60% of qualified traffic.

Prerender is mandatory

If your site is React / Vue / Angular without SSR, Yandex sees an empty `<body>` on 80% of first crawls. The index stores soft-404. Fix: build-time prerender (vite-plugin-prerender, react-snap, Vike SSG) or dynamic prerender via prerender.io.

Set your region in Yandex.Webmaster

The most common UZ mistake: the site appears "global" and never shows up in regional queries like "website development Tashkent". Fix in Webmaster → Site info → Regionality: Uzbekistan → Tashkent. Reranking takes 2–4 weeks.

Yandex.Directory — register in 10 minutes

Yandex.Directory is local results + a Maps card. Without it you do not appear for "nearby" queries. Register on yandex.uz/sprav, pick IT/web-design category, add photos, list 5+ services with prices. Moderation: 3–7 days. Then collect reviews — minimum 10 at ≥4.5 rating = local top in 2–3 months.

SQI (Site Quality Index)

SQI is Yandex's main ranking signal, updated monthly. Drivers: trust factors (age, links, brand mentions), behavior (bounce, session time, depth), content (completeness, uniqueness, freshness), technical (speed, mobile), commercial signals (prices, contacts, forms). New UZ studios average SQI 10–50 year one; you need ≥200 for top-3 on mid-frequency queries.

Semantic core for UZ

Do not copy Moscow semantics — UZ volumes are different. Use Yandex Wordstat with region set to "Uzbekistan" or "Tashkent". Build around commercial, informational, branded and local clusters. 48 articles over 6 months (2/week) is the working pace.

  • IT Park Uzbekistan (residents get a profile with dofollow)
  • Uzinfocom — government association
  • Spot.uz, Gazeta.uz, Daryo.uz, Kun.uz — $300–700 per expert column
  • Habr.com/companies/ — corporate blog with dofollow
  • Clutch.co, GoodFirms, DesignRush — moderate weight

Frequently asked questions

How long to reach top-3 on Yandex UZ?

Branded queries: 1–2 months. Long-tail local ("web studio Yashnabad"): 3–6 months. Mid-frequency commercial ("website development Tashkent"): 6–12 months. Highly competitive: 12–18+ months.

Why is my React site not indexed in Yandex?

Yandex handles JavaScript rendering poorly. Fix: prerender static pages (vite-plugin-prerender, react-snap) or use SSR (Next.js, Nuxt). Without it Yandex sees empty HTML and skips your content.

Yandex or Google — which matters more in UZ?

Yandex — 65–70% of commercial search in UZ. Google — 25–30%. Optimize for both but prioritize Yandex for local commercial and Google for informational/international.

How much does Yandex SEO cost in Uzbekistan?

Technical audit: $500–1,500 one-off. Monthly ongoing: $600–1,500 for SMB, $1,500–3,500 for mid-size. Full-service (audit + content + links + monitoring): $2,000–5,000/mo. Results visible in 3–6 months.
